ABOUT THE ARTIST

Lisa Englander was born in Brooklyn, New York. She received her undergraduate degree in Art from Brooklyn College, where she studied painting with Lois Dodd and Philip Pearlstein. She received a graduate degree in Printmaking and studied with Anthony Stoeveken at the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee. By then she had created a series of etchings, lithographs, and small drawings, which set the foundation for her mature work to follow.

Lisa Englander has been a studio artist since 1979. In 2001, she came out of the studio for a full-time position at the Racine Art Museum where she was the Head of the Retail Division and Guest Relations. She retired at the end of 2022.

Englander’s paintings and drawings have been displayed in over 25 solo exhibitions. Museum and public highlights include Wisconsin Academy of Sciences, Arts and Letters, Madison, WI; West Bend Gallery of Fine Arts, West Bend, WI; Bergstrom-Mahler Museum, Neenah, WI; Chicago Public Library Cultural Center, Chicago, IL; Rahr-West Museum, Manitowoc, WI, and Charles A. Wustum Museum of Fine Arts, Racine, WI. Solo exhibitions at galleries include Gallery 110 North, Plymouth, WI: Artspace, Kohler, WI; Boerner Botanical Gardens, Milwaukee, WI; Grace Chosy Gallery, Madison, WI; Mount Mary College, Milwaukee, WI; Anderson House Art Center, Kenosha, WI; Grace Chosy Gallery, Madison, WI and Bradley Galleries, Milwaukee, WI.

She has participated in over 300 selected juried and invitational group exhibitions throughout the United States and abroad. Her paintings, primarily in watercolor has been juried into Watercolor Wisconsin forty-one times annually since 1977. Works are included over the years in Watercolor Now, Watercolor USA, Springfield Art Museum, Springfield, MO and traveling in Missouri Watercolor Society International, Barcelona Academy of Art, Barcelona, Spain.

She is a signature member of the Transparent Watercolor Society, the Wisconsin Watercolor Society and The Watercolor Honor Society where she serves as a board member. Her painting, Hidcote is featured in A Creative Place: The History of Wisconsin Art, published in 2022.

Since 1983, Lisa Englander has been married to Bruce W. Pepich the Executive Director and Curator of Collections at the Racine Art Museum, Racine, Wisconsin.
